Solana Beach, California, is an affluent community located along the Pacific Ocean. It is just north of the horse racing track at Del Mar, in northernmost San Diego County. The approximately 13,000 residents can easily travel down to San Diego or up to Los Angeles via Interstate 5.

History

Spanish explorers visited the region in the mid-18th century. However, the first settlers that lived in today's Solana Beach were the Joneses, who arrived in the 1880s. The community that eventually developed here was originally called Lockwood Mesa. An important moment in the history of the community was the building of the Lake Hodges Dam in the World War I era. Col. Ed Fletcher bought land to create a town center in 1922. He paid $20 per acre. The name was eventually updated to Solana Beach, and the community was incorporated in 1986.

Parks and Recreation
